Science
At St. Peter’s we inspire a passion for learning through critical thinking and scientific discovery.
Our science curriculum sparks curiosity and builds practical skills, encouraging children to explore, question, and understand the world. We aim to unlock each child’s potential through an immersive, themed approach, with science at its core. Pupils will gain both substantive and disciplinary knowledge, helping them think like scientists. Our curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum and RHSE, with a focus on health and age-appropriate sex education.
To support the teaching of science, sticky knowledge, key vocabulary and subject specifics have been mapped out across the different year groups for the disciplines of: evolution and inheritance; animals (including humans); living things and their habitats; electricity; forces; earth and space; energy; materials; and plants. This can be downloaded below. Teaching includes ‘Working Scientifically’ skills, various types of enquiry, and knowledge across the different scientific fields although each discipline is not covered in every year group.
