Greenfinch Class - Tuesday 19th May

Hello Greenfinches,

Did you manage to get outside yesterday with your paintbrush?  How long was it until your letters disappeared?  How far did you get with your counting?

Remember, some of the work you will be doing includes some online links.  Please remember to always make sure an adult knows that you are using the online links.  Always follow the e-safety rules we have learned about at school.  If anything does not seem right, always let an adult know straight away.  If you need to access yesterday's learning, please follow the link at the bottom of the page.

Here are your activities for today.  Have fun!

Ms Addison

Phonics

Winston, Winston, what sound have you got? I’m going to look in your pot!

one

o-n-e  This is a tricky word, ask an adult to show you how to say this word.

How can you use one in a sentence?  Write two sentences with one in your book.  Can you use Phase 4 sounds and words in your sentence?  Can you put a full stop at the end?

Mathematics

Today you are going to look at finding one less than a number up to 20.

First, join in with counting backwards from 20 here.

Next, build a tower of 20 cubes.  Then, take off one cube at a time as you count backwards from 20 to 0.  Remember to count one number for each cube!

Next, find your number cards from 11-20.  Choose a card and build a tower with the same number of cubes.  Then take off one cube.  How many do you have left?  Can you count backwards to find the answer?

Repeat with three more towers.

Challenge:  Can you count backwards from 30? 50? 100?!  Use this number square splat to help you.

Expressive Arts and Design

Van Gogh painted lots of portraits and self-portraits. These are paintings of other people or yourself.  There is information on the website about his portraits that an adult can read to you.

Choose whether you would like to draw a self-portrait or a portrait of someone in your house.  If you are going to draw a self-portrait you need a mirror to look in or a photo of yourself to help you.  Or you could ask someone in your family to pose for a portrait and you can draw them!

We will look at how to paint the portrait in the style of Van Gogh tomorrow.  You could role play being Vincent Van Gogh while you draw! Maybe you could dress up like a painter!

Communication and Language

We are learning about the artist Vincent Van Gogh.  Some of you created some beautiful sunflower pictures using his famous painting as inspiration.  Ask an adult to read some of these facts to you about Van Gogh.  Then, answer the questions about the paintings and have a go at the quiz!

Optional Additional Activities

Listen to a Story Read by The Obamas

Barack Obama is very famous because he was the first black President of the USA.  I really enjoyed listening to him and his wife Michelle read the story ‘The Word Collector’, and I think you will too.

Bowling Game

Raid your recycling or start keeping drinks bottles so that you can make this game.

You need:

  • 10 plastic drinks bottles with lids
  • Sand or water, to weigh down the bottles. (Add food colouring to the water if you want to have different coloured bottles.)
  • Paint or felt tips to decorate
  • A ball

Then line up your skittles and start bowling!
