St. Peter's Church of England Primary School

Hand in Hand we journey together, guided by God

The Chess is Yet to Come!

Rounds of the Sussex Primary Cup continue, and so does the children’s wonderful success! After impressive performances last term at Ardingly Prep, St Andrew’s, and Bilingual Primary Hove, our Chess Team A took part in the Cottesmore Chess Congress on Wednesday 25th February, competing among 57 players, including both national and county representatives.

Congratulations to Clark, who finished an impressive 10th, winning 4 out of his 6 matches. Dylan and Nazeef also performed brilliantly, each winning 3 matches and placing in the twenties. A special well‑done to Nazeef, who was awarded the Arbiter’s Prize for “Impressive Newcomer.”

As a team, St Peter’s finished 7th out of 19 schools, outperforming several well‑known independent schools. Remarkably, we were the only state school in the competition… and one of the youngest teams too.

Following this success, our B Team visited Great Walstead for another fantastic morning of chess. They finished a very close second to Ardingly’s A Team, beating Hurst’s and Great Walstead’s A Teams, as well as Westdene’s B Team, along the way. A huge well done to Charles, who won all three of his games, a standout achievement and a real highlight of the day.
