St. Peter’s is proud to be a healthy and active school community, with a highly successful sporting tradition, where effort and achievement are celebrated by all.
Visit our school and you will appreciate the commitment that our staff, pupils and parents give to ensuring our representation at various competitions and festivals across the county. Below are just some of St. Peter’s sports teams' most recent accolades.

Monday 26 January 2026 Basketball Festival On Thursday 22nd January, a group of children from Robin Class thoroughly enjoyed an energetic morning developing their basketball skills. The session was led by coaches from Storm basketball club and sports leaders from Haywards Heath College. The group from St Peter's, together with children from nine other local schools, began with a warm up which even included skipping backwards! The first activity focused on footwork and passing skills, before they moved onto a very challenging shooting practice challenge. Several children managed to score even though the hoops were very high! In the final activity, the children worked in pairs and learnt how to dribble with the ball using correct handling technique. As always, our children demonstrated the School Games values of Self Belief, Teamwork and Determination.

Friday 16 January 2026 KS1 Net Games Last Wednesday, a group of children from Cuckoo Class spent a very active afternoon at a Net Games festival at St Paul's in Burgess Hill. They had great fun with a range of equipment including balloons, shuttlecocks, bean bags, pickle ball bats, badminton and tennis rackets. They demonstrated the School Games values of Respect by listening carefully to the Sports Leaders who were running the event, Teamwork by working cooperatively and Determination as they tried to beat their scores. The Leaders even commented on how sporty the St Peter's team were!

Tuesday 2 December 2025 Haywards Heath Get Active Last week, ten children from Swallow Class enjoyed an afternoon at the Dolphin Leisure Centre for a fantastic Get Active event! Alongside several local schools, our pupils took part in five exciting taster sessions, starting with squash before moving on to martial arts, gymnastics, street dance, and skateboarding, all guided by specialist coaches.

Tuesday 2 December 2025 Sports Hall Athletics On Thursday 27th November, Swallow Class joined pupils from six other local primary schools for a lively morning of Sports Hall Athletics at Haywards Heath College. The children participated enthusiastically in a range of events, including relay and hurdle races, track-based challenges, long jump, triple jump, and javelin.

Monday 29 September 2025 Football Festival On Wednesday 24th September, a group of children from Robin class enjoyed a football festival led by Sports Leaders from St Paul's Catholic College. Together with children from seventeen other schools, they took part in a range of football related activities and challenges in which they practised their attacking, defending and goal scoring skills. Throughout the afternoon the children from St Peter's demonstrated many of the School Games Spirits, including Respect for the leaders and Teamwork as they encouraged each other. They approached the festival with Determination and Passion by giving 100% effort from start to finish. Thank you to the parents who were able to help with transport for the event.

Monday 24 March 2025 Net Games Today, Year 4 boys from Robin Class enjoyed a fabulous afternoon of sport at Oathall Community College. Their competitive nature was ignited through a series of challenges organised by Sports Leaders from Oathall. Playing benchball, and games based on rounders, netball and basketball, they demonstrated incredible throwing and catching skills throughout. Along with their reaction speed, their passing accuracy was tested in a variety of activities. They were also introduced to a range of throwing techniques required in the game of netball.

Wednesday 12 March 2025 Goal Attack! Just yesterday, our Year 6 netball team, competed in a NEARS netball competition at St Paul's College. They participated in five fast paced games, whilst simultaneously changing positions between each half. Roman and Dylan were as fast as lightning passing the ball down the court. Anaya, Ella and Isobel showed commendable defending, whilst Oliver and Natalie scored some incredible goals! St Peter's were commended by the organiser on their brilliant netball skills and their kindness. They were a credit to St Peter's school and successfully placed fourth overall.

Thursday 6 March 2025 In a Spin! Yesterday, children from Cuckoo Class joined other local primary schools at Ardingly College for a KS1 Cricket Festival run by Sussex Cricket and staff from Ardingly College. A cricket related circuit of skills were organised for the children to try out and they worked hard to develop their aiming, throwing and catching skills. Our children proved to have good batting skills and performed co-operatively as a group too. Cold hands didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of our children at all. What a great way to spend a morning!

Wednesday 5 February 2025 Slam Dunk! Last week, some children from Swallow Class participated in a Basketball Festival at Haywards Heath College. Joining other schools from the area, the children moved swiftly around 5 activities, learning and practising many skills including passing accurately, dribbling, shooting and defending. Playing a proper game of Basketball enabled the children to practise their skills in a game situation.

Thursday 23 January 2025 Net Games Festival On Wednesday 15th January, some children from Cuckoo class spent an exciting afternoon at St Paul’s Catholic College learning not only some badminton skills, but also new skills relating to tennis, pickleball and volleyball.

Thursday 21 November 2024 Sports Hall Athletics On Thursday 21st November, Swallow Class joined pupils from six other local schools for a lively morning of Sports Hall Athletics at Haywards Heath College. The children participated enthusiastically in events such as relay and hurdle races, as well as track-based challenges like high jump, long jump, and javelin throwing. Their hard work and team spirit earned them an impressive 5th place - well done Swallow Class! A heartfelt thank you to all the parents and carers who kindly helped transport the children to and from the event. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Thursday 14 November 2024 NEARS Football St. Peter's football team recently delivered a performance to be proud of at the NEARS tournament held at St. Paul's Catholic College, Burgess Hill. From the opening whistle to the final match, they demonstrated unwavering determination, competing fiercely and defending their goal with pride. Facing a strong field of Year 6 teams, our mix of Year 4, 5, and 6 players rose to the challenge with remarkable dedication. It was truly a pleasure to watch their teamwork and spirit in action.

Tuesday 12 November 2024 Get Active! Children from Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a fabulous morning at a ‘Get Active’ event held at the Dolphin in Haywards Heath recently. Taster sessions were provided to enable the children to experience a range of sports that they may not have tried before. The children enjoyed a morning of basketball, skateboarding, a ‘we move’ team game challenge, squash and martial arts. The children agreed that the martial arts and skateboarding were certainly their favourite activities.

Wednesday 6 November 2024 NEARS Cross Country On Wednesday 6th November, a team of keen runners took part in the NEARS annual cross-country race held at St Giles CE Primary School. The course, roughly a mile long, includes a variety of terrain, and an infamous sloping path . It is not a route for the fainted hearted! The St Peter’s team were a credit to the school with their strong team performance. Taliah, the only girl in the team, finished in a commendable 10th place in her race and will be invited to take part in the Mid Sussex Finals in January. Well done Taliah!
